What is coaching?
Coaching often begins with asking the question: How do I manage….
Coaching is the development of skills and understanding through focused work on specific issues. The coach will want to understand the issues facing the client, the culture within which they are working and the way in which they work before identifying with the client the areas requiring attention. Specific tools and techniques will then be worked on collaboratively. Development and improvement might be gained through repeating and rehearsing certain activities which can take place in a coaching relationship.

The role of mentor, as part of a manager’s job, is often functional, supporting people to do specific tasks to a specific standard for a specific role. It often starts with developing learning objectives where development and support needs are identified. The manager may then suggest various methods of meeting the needs, as well as providing some specific training and feedback. We provide an external service, training and supporting workplace mentors, helping them to expand their range of mentoring skills and techniques.
